Ropes Course

Ropes Course at OAR on the OcoeeA ropes course is an obstacle course that promotes Teamwork. Participants work together and share ideas to solve obstacles which may consist of ropes, cables, and logs. A ropes course program at O.A.R. may include a Low Course (events low to the ground) or a High Course (events on wires thirty feet in the air). Instructors promote valuable interpersonal skills while team training, such as: Problem Solving, Decision Making, Leadership, Communication, and Trust. Experiential (Low Course) and half day classes are available.

O.A.R.'s Tennessee Ropes Courses is divided into two parts: the Low Course and the High Course.

Participants begin on the Low Course building their team skills and safety skills in order to conquer the High Course.

Low Course Events: Lava Skis
Trust Fall
The Log
Spider Web
Mohawk Walk
Triangle of Doom
Hot Chocolate
Training Focus: Leadership
Trust
Communication
Decision Making
Teamwork
Problem Solving
Self Esteem

The High Course:

The Giant's Ladder
Participants begin the high course three feet on the ground and end up thirty feet in the air by climbing a swinging ladder made of timbers and cable. The steps of the ladder are three feet apart at the bottom and get progressively farther apart.

The Parallel Traverse
This fifty-foot span is conquered by walking on one cable and holding another at approximately chest height.

The Multi-Vine Traverse
The final high event is the most time consuming and the most challenging. Less than 25 percent of all participants fully accomplish this event. It is very similar to the parallel traverse, except the cable to hold is above the head and ropes hang down in order to balance. The objective is to reach the pole 70 feet away and then step off to be lowered down by a fellow participant.

The ropes course program is designed for groups of up to thirty persons. There is no age limit for low events, but high ropes participants must be at least 12 years old.
